Creating a BUZZ at Showborough Gardens Sculpture Exhibition

My work for the Showborough Gardens Sculpture Exhibition 2017, in fact started way back in 2016. I made my first glass mosaic bee, as a commission for a customer to give a s a gift, and it looked so amazingly at home amongst the flower bed, I decided a swarm of bees would be ideal in one of Showborough’s stunning garden borders.

I learnt a lot about bees, after a facebook discussion about whether my mosaic bees should be yellow or orange. Opinions were definitely divided, with each side fervently fighting their corner! Thankfully a bee expert stepped in and I learnt there are in fact over 250 species of bee, so we were all in fact correct, resulting in both colours being made as part of the swarm- Don’t you just love a happy ending!

So, each of the 5 bees in my swarm are unique, but all catch the light from in front as they all have a mirrored head and beautiful iridescent wings (my favourite part). Any light from behind, highlights the orange and yellow translucent glass used in the bodies.

You can see them in the Showborough Gardens Sculpture Exhibition 2017, alongside over 200 garden sculptures from 80 sculptors. I do hope you can plan a visit, it is a truly magnificent and very special garden to explore.

A recent visitor messaged me to say, “Loved it there - can't recommend it highly enough. Gardens and art were all beautiful and worked so well together, and there was much more to see than I expected.

Visit trip advisor for more reviews of the show.
